Alumni Update - June 2017

Dear Alumni:

I heard someone once say, “The days are long, but the years are short.” In retrospect, this last school year would certainly fill that mold. I suppose, I find that statement to be true even more so, when I reflect on my time at Grace. June is quickly coming to a close in Crusader Country, and it is very quiet. Our students are enjoying their summer break, and we are getting prepared for the upcoming school year.

We ended the school year with many activities and busy months. Our sixth grade had the opportunity to tour the Columbus Police Department. A few days later, our elementary loaded a bus and traveled to the Montgomery Zoo. We held our athletic awards assembly, kindergarten graduation, and senior commencement all within two weeks of each other! We had a great time at our elementary Field Day, with athletic competitions, a rock wall, an inflatable bounce house, and much more!

Our seniors hosted a 5K competition as a fundraiser for their senior trip. For their senior trip, they drove to New York and assisted a local pastor in canvasing the neighborhood, ministering in music, and hosting a magic show for local children. I received a call from that pastor several days after that trip, and he praised our seniors for their work ethic, attitudes, testimony, and service to his church. They visited some fun and special places along the way. We have many pictures on our website of the year’s activities. Our senior class contained strong spiritual leaders this school year, and I will miss them greatly. They have now graduated into the ranks of Alumni!

As one year ends and another begins, I would like to draw your attention to an opportunity to assist our school. Over the last several years, the administration of Grace Christian School has made a concerted effort to continually improve the appearance and functionality of our facilities. Recent improvements include new chalkboards in all rooms, new computers in our lab, a re-organized library, a controlled-access security system, remodeled offices and foyer, new carpet and décor in the hallways, new playground equipment, new carpet in our Pre-K classroom, and last year – with your help – new lockers.

These improvements have been made possible through school fundraisers (including Publix Partners), and generous donations from our alumni, parents, faculty, staff, and Grace Baptist Church members.

Perhaps one of the biggest challenges our school has faced in the last decade has been the glaring lack of a science lab. Prospective parents are noticeably disappointed when they discover that we are unable to offer lab experiences to the high school students. The financial hurdle that must be overcome to outfit a fully-functional science lab is enormous; however, the installation of proper flooring and a few strategic purchases would allow our students to begin participating in lab activities during classes and would allow our science teacher to perform many more demonstrations.

One family has already donated $3,500-worth of new lab equipment; the additional upgrades we would like to perform will cost approximately $6,500. Our desire is to finish renovating the science classroom over the summer so that students can enjoy these upgrades when they return next year. If you would like to make a tax-deductible donation toward this goal, please contact the school office at (706)323-9161. You can also navigate to our church website by clicking here. On the links at the top of the page, you’ll click on “Give”. Designate the donation to Grace Christian School and type “Science Lab” in the comments section.

Even if you are unable to contribute toward this goal, please pray that the Lord would provide in a special way. We look forward to seeing God continue to use Grace Christian School to educate the next generation of Christian leaders.

Occasionally, I will send updates through e-mail. If you did not receive an update through e-mail this past school year, e-mail us at, so we will have your current e-mail address on file. If you are ever in the area, remember to stop by the school. I would love to chat with you and show you what the Lord is doing at Grace Christian School!

Crusader Always,
