It has been several months since I last communicated with you, and this school year has been moving rapidly! We are coming to the midpoint in our second quarter of our 39th year of operation. As always, it is hard to believe we are already in the month of November, but the Lord has been working mightily in our school.
We began the school year with our school revival. Evangelist Chris Miller preached to our elementary and secondary students, and three students placed their trust in Jesus Christ! We had an additional fall revival during October. Evangelist Calvin Allen preached, and three teenagers trusted in Jesus Christ. It has been a privilege to be part of the Lord’s work!
Our Fall fundraiser went extremely well! We used the funds to purchase two AEDs for our ministry as well as an alarmed AED wall cabinet for storage. The second AED will travel with our students whenever a trip would take them off campus. We were also able to make needed improvements to the First Aid equipment in our office area. We are always looking to make improvements as the Lord provides the funds.
We have received an additional $525 in donations for our science lab since the last update. The additional upgrades we would like to perform will cost approximately $5,500. If each alumnus donated $25, it would cover all the equipment needed to install proper flooring and make a few strategic purchases. This would allow our students to begin participating in lab activities during classes and allow our science teacher to perform many more demonstrations. If you would like to make a tax-deductible donation toward this goal, please contact the school office at (706) 323-9161.
Our junior varsity volleyball team ended the regular season with 6 wins and 4 losses. Our varsity volleyball team ended the regular season with 8 wins and 2 losses. Both teams made it to state competition, but lost in the first round in very competitive matches. We are very proud of our Lady Crusaders. We bid farewell to the two seniors of our volleyball team, Kaleigh Henderson and Kaitlyn Blackmon.
Our junior varsity basketball team began practices October 16. Their first game is scheduled for November 14. We did not have enough interest for a varsity team this year, but for our upcoming Homecoming and Alumni festivities, we will have a mix of junior varsity and varsity players—so don’t think the Alumni team will get off too easily! Our alumni ladies will be taking on our varsity volleyball team. I’m looking forward to these matches!
This year, these festivities will be held on Friday, January 19, and Saturday, January 20. On Friday, our basketball team will have our Homecoming match after which we will crown our 2018 Homecoming queen. On Saturday, our alumni events will begin at 3:00 p.m. After these games, I invite you back to the school for a barbecue dinner and a trip down memory lane! I’ll have the school facilities open, if you’d like to tour the school and see your old classrooms! Because we will be providing dinner, I kindly ask that you RSVP by January 12 if you are able to come to the alumni weekend, so that I may have an accurate count of people. You can call the school at (706) 323-9161, e-mail the school at email@example.com, contact us through our website, www.gcscolumbus.org, or message us through our Facebook page. Our Homecoming and Alumni festivities will take place at Psalmond Road Recreation Center. The address is 6550 Psalmond Road, Columbus, GA 31820.
I wanted to leave you with the names of our teachers for this school year. I would love for you to pray for them. They certainly sacrifice much to be involved in the spiritual and academic lives of our young people. Please consider praying for them or even writing them a letter of encouragement. We would gladly receive those at the school’s address.
